Frequently asked questions:
Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship?
All students who will be enrolled in high school (grades 9-12) in Fall 2026 are eligible to apply for a scholarship. This award is to be used for high school educational expenses.
What do you look for?
We look for applicants who demonstrate academic achievement and a drive and passion for improving the world. We also prioritize need-based applicants.
How do you define a need-based applicant?
Household qualifies for need-based status, defined as income less than 300% of federal poverty guideline.
Note: If your application indicates that you qualify for need-based status, household income will be verified prior to issuing a scholarship award.
How long does the application take?
We estimate the application will take most students between 45 and 90 minutes to complete. In addition to basic background information and a couple of short answer questions about academic achievement, there are a couple of short essay questions with a maximum of up to 300 words.
For the essay questions, rough answers and bullet points are fine. We are more interested in the content of your responses, not how well you can write.
How will I receive my scholarship?
Scholarships will be awarded as a check made payable to the applicant’s high school, with funds designated to be used for the student’s educational expenses.
Scholarship awards will be sent by mail upon verifying enrollment and need-based status, if applicable.
Do I have to pay to apply?
No, it's 100% free to apply. Global Horizons SGO will never ask you for any payment to issue a scholarship award.
